The Winners of Stars Earn Stripes (Part 2)

Military and veteran charities help veterans obtain the benefits to which they are entitled, such as the VA Aid & Attendance Non-Service Connected Disability Pension or put veterans in touch with other professionals and organizations that can help them.  Other charities help with reintegration, treatment, and other issues that may arise in a veteran’s life.  Continuing my last article, NBC’s Olympic follow-up, Stars Earn Stripes, teams up eight celebrities with military veterans for a variety of military training exercises.  Each of the celebrities is raising money for a cause that champions military veterans.

Dean Cain, who formerly played Superman, is supporting the Wounded Warrior Project.  The purpose of the Wounded Warrior Project is to help war veterans adjust to their physical and psychological injuries.  The organization helps with benefits claims, job placement, counseling, and more.  With a local office in San Diego, opportunities for volunteering exist in addition to making donations.  Dean Cain is teamed up with former Navy Seal and sniper, Chris Kyle.

Nick Lachey, former boy band member and star of The Newlyweds with then-wife Jessica Simpson is supporting The Badge of Honor Memorial Foundation. Although the show is primarily focused on the military, this charity is a law enforcement-based organization focused on helping the surviving families of law enforcement workers who died in the line of duty and memorializing the slain officers. The organization seeks out departments who have lost an officer and inquires about their casualty planning and offers assistance, both for dealing with the immediate death and planning for future deaths. Nick Lachey is teamed up with SWAT team cop, Tom Stroup.

WWE star Eve Torres is supporting the USO.  Most famous for its morale missions, including concerts and celebrity visits, the USO provides a valuable service to members of the military who are actually, currently at war.  In fact, the Port of San Diego is home to a set of statues collectively called “A National Salute to Bob Hope and the Military” depicting one of Bob Hope’s numerous USO appearances.  However, the USO also delivers care packages to combat troops, delivers comforts like beanbag chairs and Xboxes to remote locations, aids the families of the deceased, and much more.  Eve Torres is teamed up with former Green Beret, Grady Powell.

Finally, boxing star Laila Ali, the daughter of Muhammad Ali, is supporting the Military Child Education Coalition.  Because the military often requires parents to move around the world with their school-aged children, this organization provides resources and transition materials for students and parents.  Additionally, the organization provides scholarships to selected students. Laila Ali is teamed up with Camp Pendleton Navy Corpsman, Talon Smith.
