Preparing for Your Initial Consultation
What To Expect At Your First Meeting
[Estate Planning] [Someone Has Died]
Your Estate Planning Consultation
You need to bring very little with you for this appointment. Just
1) copies of your existing Estate planning Documents (if you have any), such as your Living Trust,
Will, Powers of Attorney, etc. and
2) a simple list of what you own:
• approximately what your house would sell for and what you owe on your mortgage;
• if you have any stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, bring in your monthly statement; and
• approximately what you have in your bank accounts & c/d’s.
By bringing this information it will help us to know what we’re dealing with so that the estate planning review can be worthwhile to you. We will ask you to fill out a very brief information form, then discuss your situation with you, and answer your questions. If we decide to work together at some point in the future, we’ll provide you a checklist of documents we’d need to obtain from you…but that’s down the road. For this initial meeting, we simply need your presence.
Our office is located at 191 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas California, part of the Santa Fe Business park (click here for map). The parking lot serves all six buildings in the park. In order to save yourself walking, please locate the building with the big “191” on it before you park. There’s additional parking in the back of the building, so you can drive to the rear and park your car anywhere in the lot.
Our suite is on the second floor and there is an elevator available. We’re at the end of the hall in Suite #270. The door is always closed, so just open it up and you’ll be greeted in our reception room.
We understand that appointments sometimes have to be changed and would like to ask that if you need to reschedule, please call us as soon as you know. If need be, you can even leave a message for us during off hours on our voice mail.
We look forward to seeing you.
If you have any questions in the meantime, please call us at 760-436-8832.
Estate Administration Consultation
Someone Has Died
We know that this is an extremely emotional time and will do everything we can to make it as easy as possible for you. You need to bring very little with you for this appointment. Just
1) copies of the existing Estate planning Documents (if you can find any), such as the Living Trust,
Will, Powers of Attorney, etc. and
2) a simple list of what was owned:
• approximately what the house would sell for and what was owed on the mortgage;
• if there are any stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, bring in a recent statement;
• approximately what was in the bank accounts & c/d’s; and
• death certificate (if you have received it yet).
By bringing this information it will help us to know what we’re dealing with so that the consultation can be worthwhile to you. We will ask you to fill out a very brief information form, then discuss the situation with you, and answer your questions. If we decide to work together, we’ll provide you a checklist of documents we’d need to obtain from you…but that’s down the road. For this initial meeting, we simply need your presence.
Due to attorney-client confidentiality and family dynamics issues, if you are contemplating having anyone else attend this meeting, please call us first so we can discuss the appropriateness of that action. There is, of course, no problem with someone else driving you to the meeting; we are only potentially concerned with someone else sitting in on the meeting.
