IS YOUR ATTORNEY BOARD CERTIFIED?
WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
The goal of certification is to identify those attorneys who are true specialists by reason of education, experience, and proficiency.

Does Your Attorney Have the Necessary Experience?
Many Attorneys Do Not Have Specialized Training
An attorney certified as a specialist in San Diego Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law has completed extensive specialized legal education beyond that required to initially obtain a license to practice law. Many attorneys who claim to “do Living Trusts”, no matter how long they may have been in practice, do not have this specialized training.
Requirements to Be Certified as a Specialist
To be certified as a Specialist by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization (you can access this official state agency’s web site to view the actual rules governing the program and various other data it has available), an attorney must have
• passed a rigorous examination focused solely on issues in the Estate Planning,
Trust, and Probate field,
• completed extensive legal education in this field, and
• performed numerous specific tasks and techniques in this area of the law.
Does Your Attorney Have the Necessary Experience?
To be licensed as an attorney, an individual must pass the State Bar Exam. However, unlike physicians, there is no internship requirement. The attorney generally obtains his experience “on the job.” Whether that experience has been in Estate Planning, and the quantity and extent of that experience, is usually unknown to the client.
Merwyn J. Miller is proud to have received the certification of the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in the field of Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. This CERTIFICATION BY THE CALIFORNIA STATE BAR BOARD OF LEGAL SPECIALIZATION is an important recognition that Mr. Miller is truly qualified in his specialty.
