A Salute to Veterans Day 11/11/11 & Info on Some Events

Veterans Day holds a special place in my family and in my practice. As I discussed in our previous entry remembering our WWII Veterans, the men and women who serve in our armed services mean a great deal to me and my family. In my practice, I get the opportunity to meet and work with all types of veterans and their families and that is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
There have been so many families that have simply been scared to death of how they would pay for Mom or Dad’s ssisted living, skilled nursing, or in home care situation. To be able to help them qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance Non-Service Connected Disability Pension has been an honor. I have previously discussed the costs of assisted living. And we have a VA Aid & Attendance webinar that goes into even more detail. Bottom line, it is a benefit that can avoid families from going broke.
We’re all definitely excited about the numerically symmetrical Veterans Day 11/11/11. The United Veterans Council of San Diego has information about our local veterans council in addition to some upcoming news and events regarding Veterans Day. Also here is a link to the San Diego County Veterans Day Parade taking place at 11 AM this Friday. We all love a good parade and San Diego County hosts one of the best Veterans Day Parades around. It may be a bit overcast, so be sure to bring a sweatshirt or jacket just in case.
Many of my clients and local veterans use or have used the services of the VA San Diego Healthcare System which has information regarding its services as well as information about some events and classes it hosts. Last but certainly not least, if you’re interested in assisting veterans who are in need of substance abuse recovery, job training, mental health counseling, housing, food, clothing and legal services please check out Veterans Village of San Diego where you can volunteer and/or submit donations. It’s a great organization and tremendous benefit to many of our veterans here in San Diego.
To everyone in San Diego County please honor and remember our veterans this Friday and have a happy and safe Veterans Day 11/11/11.
